Regenerative medicine is a cutting-edge form of treatment in orthopedics involving biological therapies to stimulate your body’s natural healing process. We can utilize your own body’s platelets and stem cells, injecting them into your injured areas. This has been shown to stimulate healing and speed repair for bone, muscle, joint, soft tissue and nerve injuries. Our therapies are primarily for patients who have failed conventional treatments such as anti-inflammatory medications, cortisone injections, physical therapy, surgery and rest.
Normally, when you have an injury, multiple cellular signals are released to mobilize your own body's local stem cells to the site of injury to repair the tissue. In the case of a chronic injury such as arthritis or fraying of a tendon, you body has lost the ability to be able to heal itself. By extracting your stem cells or blood platelets and injecting them into an injured site we "trick" the body to think there is a new injury to initiate the healing process. The treatments enable your body to heal more quickly and more effectively.
The most common forms of regenerative medicine include Prolotherapy, Platelet-Rich-Plasma (PRP) Injections and Bone Marrow Concentrate Injections. At your patient visit, Dr. Bullock will discuss what treatment is needed to ensure an optical outcome of treatment.
Active adults experience a number of conditions that can commonly be treated with regenerative medicine including, but not limited to:
Arthritis of various joints
Muscle strains
Ligament sprains
Achilles pain
Plantar fasciitis
Meniscus tears
Tennis elbow
Rotator cuff and biceps tendon pain
Hamstring tendon injuries
Gluteus medius tears/tendinopathy
Compression nerve injuries
The outcome of each treatment depends upon the site and severity of the injury as well as the patient’s own healing potential.
